Many visit but few experience Savannah...

A long lazy evening just sitting on a big ol' porch with friends and family is a traditional Savannah experience. Quiet times are the most important times in Savannah and there is no place else where you can live and share those moments like at The Galloway House.

Located in the heart Historic Savannah's Victorian District the Galloway House offers guests a rare chance to experience what life in Historic Savannah was really like. The Galloway House is the only classical revival plantation mansion in Historic Savannah.

Built in 1895 and before the advent of income tax, it was originally a single family house with 81 windows, 36 doors, 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 4 chimneys a stable and servants quarters. Around the time of the Great Depression it was divided into 2 apartments, later it was an office for an answering service, a storage facility and for years it just sat empty.

On a cold rainy day in March 2005 I bought the house and moved in with my boys, Charlie & Moose, two Great Danes that I'd rescued. That night I counted 17 leaks in the roof but the boys kept me warm. Since then the house has been fully restored, from the foundation to the tops of the chimneys, new wiring, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, gallons of paint, plaster, landscaping in the front, side and back yards, new trees and hundreds of plants.

Today my partner Jim and I live on the 2nd floor with Charlie, Moose and Scooter, the latest Great Dane I've been lucky enough to rescue. We also have three private apartments available for guests to enjoy, each with a separate entrance and fully equipped kitchen. The Galloway House is an owner occupied vacation rental property and I provide a continental breakfast for all guests so I also function as a self-catering bed and breakfast. The 1st floor of the main house has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and the two story carriage house has two 1 bedroom, 1 bath apartments. All the sheets I buy are at least 400 thread count Egyptian cotton, all the towels are biggest, thickest I've been able to find, high definition tv's, password protected Wi-Fi access and original oil paintings in every apartment.

So if you want to find out how it felt to live in a Savannah Plantation Mansion then don't just visit Historic Savannah but live the old Savannah life at The Galloway House.

P. S. The last picture is of a Great Dane I rescused on a ferry crossing Long Island Sound. Moose was feeling a little nervous.
